and some do it better than others. It is simplistic bullshit to imply that actors are shallow, or don't know themselves, as some of the more shallow and simplistic have said here. Same for the idea that actors lose/destroy themselves in or as result of a role. Surely some do, but most don't.
Those actors who I most admire are the ones most capable of disappearing into their role....like virtually everyone in 'The Wire'. I would like to see some of our most ardent commentators/critics attempt acting.
I would imagine that the same qualities that support all creative talents, make them somewhat more susceptible to depression, drug abuse and suicide. It is a real bitch to 'see' in this world. While others, those who consume but never really understand either the [creative] process nor the fruits thereof, never get it....never see or understand anything outside themselves.
I think that the way we treat/worship celebrity takes a toll on those we can't leave alone.
