"Chico:" the most brilliant political film you've never heard of.

It is quite closely based on the life of the principal actor whose performance shows you that truth and most acting have little in common.
A man born into an international family in Bolivia comes to manhood in war-torn Chile, then becomes in turn a journalist, spy, and military commando, drawn to the hot-spots of the world. This film combines documentary and fiction to create a far more realistic picture of revolution and war than any other. Amazingly, the film goes on location to all the countries portrayed, including Hungary, Bolivia, Croatia, Israel, and several others.
Seeing the tragedies and torments of this man's life makes one's own seem almost empty: he is quick to put his life on the line many times in a passion born and driven by his strong religious upbringing.
If you enjoyed any of the recent series of political thrillers, i.e. "Babel," "The Constant Gardener," "Syriana," you definitely will very much appreciate this far superior film. I can only think of Antonioni's, "The Passenger," with which to compare this very disturbing, haunting film.
