Agree on Hackman's performance and the music but the film has a dated feel to me. I thought it was much better 35 years ago.
One note, I had forgotten Gomer Pyle's firlfriend, Miss Lou Ann Poovie, had a major part in the film. It was difficult to get that out of my mind. :-)
