I know a piece of music is superior to another--- or the same way I know ANY art works are ranked. I could get quite specific, but there's little point if one disagrees, one disagrees. If I say a late Beethoven quartet is better than another by Brahms, how could I convince you I'm "right?"
I would just say this: there is much about the human condition to think about after the Antonioni film and far less so after the Huston one. There also is a question of cinematography, ambient sound, acting realism.... but these are all arguable, aren't they?
