Home Films/DVD Asylum

Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

Yes, But only if you combine DVD & Streaming

Lets face it, the objective is to kill the dvd. At this point,if they would have to stand on streaming alone they are toast. By killing the dvd they pressure the content providers to make up for the lost sales of the dvd.

For my family, the attraction of the dvd is newer movies. The attraction for us with streaming is series that we can't get on cable and filling time while waiting for the next dvd to arrive. Therefore, streaming doesn't have the value to us that it does to some (at this point). The content for streaming just isn't there.

Another threat to the model could be the content providers doing their own streaming. We already have Sony streaming and MGM on cable. The barrier to entry of the market might be lower without having to buy all those dvds, especially if you already own the content.

I think they pulled the trigger too soon with the separation of dvd and streaming. It just puts it on the table that it can be one or the other(for now). At this point, I'm still in the dvd camp. If I want to watch old crappy movies I can just stick with cable.

And by the way, my increase would be $5.29
