Without any hesitation I give the award to The Mill and the Cross.
Somewhat linked to tin's post, this Polish film deconstructs Pieter Bruegel's paintings with visual effect that I have not yet experienced.
I have always loved his works, and seeing them become live on HD screen was a very special event indeed. True to the original to the point of being ridiculous, these images will linger in your mind.
I don't recall another film that I have watched with such nearly physical pleasure in a long, long time.
Don't know about Greenaway, but this one surely rocks and is a MUST for anyone who appreciates fine art. Might not be the best film you have seen, but will surely be one of the most memorable and striking!
