The ape costumes seemed to fit a lot better and the eyes were more communicative. Maybe the eyes had to do with the actors? But the masks all too often had permanent looks of anger or disdain instead of being neutral when need be. To me, that is a big part of film in the costuming of the apes.
In the first I remembered when Caesar showed the first spark of lucidity. It seems almost frightening. As for this one, the ape "Uncle Tom-ing" cracked me up immediately. I not sure most of audience actually caught on at first. (Don't let a monkey make a fool out of you.)
The action was great but, alas, the movie too long. This one may break the series due to the lack of costumes and script. But, it will depend on the summer audience and it may well exceed wild expectations.
