I should probably take a viewing of this one. Mainly because I read the book and found some inspiration within that work. (with many reservations)
It is easy for me, and lots of others, to be critical of the novel. What is it if not a continuous journey with stops along the way in search of some higher meaning, some better party, to meet with friends in another city and to experience some trippier high.! And the trip in reality, I was to conclude, was to gather material with which to write his book. And it worked quite well financially for Kerouac. There were three more novels that could have been considered as sequels to the first, or really just a continuation of it. At the least I found them as pointless as the first, only more so.
The Moriarty character (based on a trip companion) must have been a literary device. A weak one, because I could never quite figure what it was that motivated the author to exault this guy so much.
