'Black Panther': Dare we criticize?

Sure, why not.

Mediocre script, mostly B-tier cast, and B-tier effects. The effects were a real let down compared to the other mightier budgeted Marvel productions. When I looked beyond the principals in a scene the CGI looked sloppy and slightly blurred. Although the action sequences were very good with all the jumping around.

The story of Wakanda and its leaders have been noticeably compared to Trump's America. That may be true but the long, low dog whistle of the film simply overclouds Wakanda's self-contained policies to the average viewer. And, I was surprised that the most modern country on the planet still resorted to political savagery in the form of kingly combat.

Wakanda served no useful purpose to the world and the story did not feature a monolithic evil that needed to be defeated like all other Marvel stories. Perhaps that is coming later. (Not a comic book guy.)

Despite its flaws, it is entertaining looking past its warts and moles. And, people are going to see this three and four times to make it the most watched and profitable film, ever. Perhaps one day the metroplex will have a double feature: 'Black Panther' and 'Gone With The Wind'.

3 wonks for entertainment
2 wanks for not being the best it could be
