'Trotsky': History or propaganda?

This, much like 'Road to Calvary', painted all revolutionaries as complete assholes. Unrelenting assholeness from all the "greats". Trotsky is painted to be as big an a-hole as Stalin. I found it interesting in the way the miniseries was structured with constant flashes forward and backward which show how much German money was pumped into Russian revolutionaries and how the revolution began to turn on itself with paranoia.

(Interesting note: I had heard over the years that Lenin was so devoted to the revolution and proletariat that he slept on a sofa in his office. The series took pains to explain Lenin had a stroke late in his career and then rested on a sofa in his office during the day when necessary. Thanks for the correction.)

With Trotsky's overbearing nature, I'm surprised he lived as long as he did. His life in Mexico was restful as first and he had a lovely friendship with Frida and Diego, especially Frida.

Not sure how much post-revolutionary propaganda was at play or whether this eight-part drama was comic book history. It will keep you interested.

3 wonks for story, editing, and actors
2 wanks not knowing how much is actual history
