I must have been 6 when I first saw this film back in the 50's. It was the moment when I became aware that the world was unsafe--a terrifying place where evil lurks behind every rock and tree. I'm still not over it. Why do they let kids watch these things? Here's a film where the virgin is seduced by three men posing as "cartoon characters", lead to a field of opium poppies, and then awakened by the "good" witch with the cocaine "snow", which was actually asbestos flakes. Jed Clampett was supposted to play the Tin Woodman, but nearly died from weeks of inhaling the metal powder make-up he wore. He had to quit and they switched the make-up to a paste. Too bad they cut the jitterbug scene. What? You're telling me the flying monkeys don't scare you? Bullshit! When they fell on the beloved scarecrow and ripped him to pieces? Is there anything in film before or since more graphically violent than that?
