Tre, I didn't know you worked at A&M records. Lots of great musician recorded there.
I had the chance when I was in my teens back in the 70's to see my Brother's band lay down some tracks at Studio West here in San Diego. I was in the booth with the Engineers when they were setting up each musicians track and doing the sound checks and tone adjustments for the recording. Seemed like it took for ever. The one thing that stuck out was when they asked the Drummer to change how his tone was on his snare drum, the Engineers wanted it to sound a certain way for the recording and when the final mixing was done.
I was just in awe of all the studio gear in that booth and wanted to be a Audio Engineer to do studio recording but never got the chance to attend a school for that stuff. They had a huge mixing board and I think they were using 2" Reel tape.
I remember the Engineer telling if you think this crazy, you should see what gear they have for final mixing at the big recording studios in LA.
The Closest I ever got to the major recording studio was Record Plant in Hollywood. I was at a technical book store right across the street and when I got out of the track, I turned around and saw the big sign Record Planet. I wish I could have got a tour of that studio. As a Musician (Drummer) I would have love to see each individual Recording studio in there and who may have be laying tracks down at the time. Big name Studio musicians were always in that place laying down tracks.
