Except from DV-09 owners, opinions are that even with the dreaded chroma bug the DVD3800 is better than the DV-09. The Denon is a progressive player and the output would be better than the Sony doing the deinterlacing (in my opinion). Go to avsforum.com and do a search in the "DVD and Laserdisc Hardware" section about the DVD3800. While it's not 100% gone, Denon has a fix for the chroma bug (see references to "DenonJeff") via a software update or you can get a recent model that has the fixed chip (in hardware).
