With a DVD recorder, you have to really watch closely as to the type of media it can use, how you want to use the recorder and what machines you want to play back on. I think there's five types of media, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM, plus hard disk. The Panasonic you saw is about as cheap as you can get a recorder. Personally, I looked at all the different media, what they're good at or bad at, and concluded this was an area I am not prepared to get into yet. Also recorders generally do not have tuners built in so it's not a simple matter of finding a unit that works like a VCR only it records on DVD. So you may want to do some more research to determine if this is something you want to consider at this time. My personal feeling is that this will be a more workable situation in a couple of years.Bruce
