I think Pioneer also has recorders. As to recording VHS tapes, if they're Macromedia encoded, my understanding is they won't record (you get jibberish for a picture). The ads I've seen always talk about recording shows (of course, that would be from an external tuner), transfering camcorder tapes and any VCR tapes you have made (again not from a macromedia encoded source which I think can be copied to tape OK as a first generation copy). Unless one of these situations is your major reason for wanting a recorder, I think it may be wise to hold off.
