They directed me to a service area around here. I called the service guy and we had almost a half hour talk. He told me that I am not alone with this problem, just like Mark above. What is actually the problem is the damn software that is used to make the dvd and the tv communicate. i.e. detect the 16:9. He said that sony KNOWS this but they are still pumping these sets out. When i got off the phone it dawned on me. Why the HELL would there be a menu toggle for "Automatic and "ON" istead of automatic and OFF? Think about it, if the tv is set to auto, it should do it's thing and switch this feature on, so why the hell would i have to turn something on that should already BE on? Anyhow, the down to earth tech told me that there may be a fix in the upcoming months and he will keep me posted. He refrained from coming over b/c he knew there was nothing wrong physically with the set and advised me not to let any monkey brained repair men come and violate me new tv. This is a software problem. I guess I will have to wait it out.... What do you guys think?
