Re: Denon 2800mkII vs Philips 963sa - any video comparisons?

I have installed many Denon 1600 and the results have been great. Denon 2800 should be just as reliable.

As for Philips, I just received my US shipment of 963SA last week and installed one unit over the weekend. The interlaced picture quality looks great. However, the progressive scan component output (switchable by a slider at the back panel) was not good. The unit was hooked up to a Pioneer 43" plasma TV capable of all progressive scan rates.

The switch to progressive output turns the picture into blocks of vertical strips with very poor resolution. On the video meuu, the output is selectable between NTSC, PAL and Auto. I tried both NTSC and Auto settings, and the result is the same.

I called Philips tech support this morning and spent about 45 min. to explain the same problem to 3 different Philips customer care persons. The bottom line is that 963SA is a new model, and nobody seems to know anything about it. I got a case no. and I am supposed to receive a call from Philips in the next 48 hours.

I may be reluctant to recommend Philips products in the future if they cannot address the problem.
