Follow-up on Philips 963SA:I received a call from Philips tech support today (27 hours after my initial contact). We went through the problem of progressive scan output from this player. The technician concluded that it might be a problem with the progressive output circuit, because the player is designed to output different progressive scan rates for both US and European standards. Since this is the first batch of players shipped to the US, it is not uncommon that quality control problem occurs.
He offered an exchange of a new 963SA directly from Philips so I do not have to go through the distributor. An authorization letter will be sent to me and I will have to send my current unit back to Philips with the letter. Once Philips receives the unit, a new player will be sent out within 48 hours.
This is the first time that I deal with Philips and I am pretty impressed with the response. I will keep you posted.
