Analog bypass/analog direct mode allows an analog signal from a 2-channel analog source and signals from an SACD or DVD-A player to bypass the A/D and D/A conversion. This means that the signal will only be played through the front left and right channels. This is not only with Onkyo. Many receivers feature the Analog bypass/analog direct mode. If however, you engage bass management on your A/V receiver, the bypass mode will convert the analog signal to digital, since bass management is performed by the DSP chips.
