Purchasing a DVD player

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

I'm looking a purchasing a DVD player but honestly know nothing about them. I can think of the following questions:
1. Buying new or used: Has there been a change in the quality over the last few years? Are newer player better? Should I consider used?
2. What do you get for more money: Are the cheaper players as good as the medium priced players? high priced players? Are there significant compromises in quality.
3. What DVD players should I consider assuming I am using it with a projector?
