Help: Low-end progressive scan vs. high-end w/o, eg. Pioneer dv434 vs. elite dv-09?

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

I'm looking for a player to use as CD transport and for movies. I figure a higher end player will be a quieter transport (which is VERY important to me), but I can get a lower end model with progressive for less $$.
Which would have the better picture do you expect? I'm using a 32" WEGA now, but may switch to projection soon.
Any recommendations? Used, most likely.
