Re: THX Question

I have found that the higher-end Sony Receivers (ES) make pretty descent preamps with some minor tweaking.... one thing is for sure, using the external MAdrigal to drive as many speakers as you can WILL sound way better than using the internal amps....THX or not....

You know i would take a slightly different approach, i would use the Madrigal for your front L/R channels and Center and use the Internal amps for the L/R back surrounds. This would sound much better for voices and music and let the receiver handle the surrounds (which is less demanding). Remember THX is NOT a format, it's a standard, so you won't loose anything doing it either the way you thought or what i suggested.

I have a Sony receiver acting as a pre for my PSAudio HCA-2 amp for music and front L/R amplification. I let the receiver handle the center and surrounds and pre-out to my Titan II LE Sub. Having your best amp handle you front L/R channels really makes sense if you also listen to music.... my setup is now sounding very nice.
