I'm very pleased with my Denon DVD-1600 which LISTS for $550 and can be purchased new for somewhat less.You do not need HDTV to enjoy the picture quality of DVD's. If your Sony has component video inputs, that would be your best bet. Otherwise, S-Video is your next choice.
