...last I heard plasma life was something around 30,000 hours to 50% brightness - which isn't too bad - about 12-15 years of "normal" TV watching.

Plasmas, as well as CRT rear projectors, are subject to burn-in, especialy if left in "torch mode" with contrast and brightness set too high. Most folks watch 4:3 material in zoom mode or use the orbit function.

I love my CRT 34" direct view Philips HDTV with Pixel Plus, but I don't think Philips is a leader in plasma technology. The best source for good info on plasmas is the plasma forum at www.avsforum.com
