"There is no cable at all between TV and amp. The only connection is the audio output from the DVD". The only connection to what? I assume from DVD to amp, right? Cause if you're running audio output INto the back of your new TV, that would explain a lot.
Something has to be running between your DVD and the TV. Is it component, composite or S-video cable? Clearly something basic, but very bad, is wrong with your hook-up. You've got to bootstrap the system, ie: take one cable out of the loop at a time (shutting down your amp every time), until you locate the bad hook up. It may be as simple as running an output into an output etc. But you can do a lot of damage like that.
Also, you might try setting up the system the way it used to be, before the added new stuff, to see if the amp still whacks out. You say you've had the JC-50 for "several years". You may be blaming the new TV unjustly. As George said, all things must pass. Then again, it can't be that old if you can run Dolby and/or DTS encoded audio signals through it, which is what you're getting off DVD, right? You say you ran DVD through this amp, with the old TV, and everything was okay, right?
