I own a Panasonic 16:9 RPTV and I just rechecked the instruction manual. I could find no warnings about operating with 4:3 signals which have the black bars on each side of the picture. Of course you can zoom the picture to fill the screen by losing some of the top and bottom of the picture. I have heard that you must be cautious of the brightness since too much brightness can overheat and wear out the projection tubes. Also there is a warning about using the extra black feature, used when calibration the brightness with a test dvd and for some games, for long term viewing. If someone has more info on this I would like to hear it too.
