Not sure what you mean by "best". In our neck of the woods the picture quality does not vary dramatically between brands although personally I'm not impressed by Panasonic TVs although I vote their videorecorders the best in the business.I suggest you talk to a technician. Modern gear has the electronics very crammed up. This is bad from 2 viewpoints - ventillation (& component life) and ease (so cost) of servicing. A technician could point you towards the most reliable brands and then you can choose the picture and features from this list.
If you are likely to use DVD then make sure the TV has a component input - vastly superior to S-video.
