Ok, then how 'bout question re: HT spkr placmnt in odd rm

In process of purchasing HT system.

The most CONVENIENT room for my HT is also, I'm afraid, the worst.

You may want to sketch this out first...

- The room is rectangular, approximately 20x25 with a cathedral ceiling.

- The North and South walls are the short walls.

- The East and West walls are the long walls.

- There is a fireplace on the east wall near the NE corner.

- Just next to the fireplace on the east wall is the open entrance to the dining room.

- In the SE corner of the room is the corner entertainment center.

- Directly in the middle of the South wall is a doorwall to outside.

- Starting in the middle of the West wall and wrapping around to the middle of the north wall is a wraparound sofa that seats 6 comfortably.

SOF prohibits me from rearranging the room, so I must work with what I got. Here's what I was thinking of doing...

- Mounting the main/front speakers at the top of the south wall in the SE and SW corners.

- I was thinking of mounting the surrounds at the top of the north wall in the NE and NW corners.

- The center channel would go on top of the TV in the SE corner.

- The subwoofer would go in the NW corner behind the sofa (the sofa curves so there is some space there).

I am new to HT and am looking for any advice on this placement since this is not a typical setup. I've typically seen the surrounds behind the viewers and the TV/mains/center in front of them. I am especially concerned with the center channel and surrounds not being in there typical spots and how this might affect perception.

I have had one suggestion to place the center channer speaker on top of the mantle above the fireplace but leave everything else where I stated - but this doesn't make sense to me.

Please help before I start drilling! ;-))
