Looking for a DVD player

I am planning to buy a DVD player within the $200-300 range. I have checked out the Pioneer DV233 and a Samsung (I think it was 611). I cannot make up my mind on which one to go for. How do they fare in terms of quality and reliability. I have heard that the Pioneer model does not play scratched discs easily. Should I check out any other brands? Your inputs will be valuable.
