I'm assuming you mean just speakers and not a complete system (I hope).In any event, look at your purchase before you buy. Five speakers plus a subwoofer = six speakers. Divide $400 by 6 = $67.
Do you really want to spend $67 for a speaker and attempt to get good sound? Sadly we're not there yet in terms of audio engineering -- good speakers cost good cash. It sucks, but it's true.
The cheapest realizable HT system I've seen is probably the Energy Take 5 which comes in at about $800 with a sub. I'd suggest saving up for this or just getting two speakers and then adding more later. You'll be much happier than getting something that just won't do the job.
