The only real advantage of HDMI is that it includes the digital audio signal.... and in most cases you don't need it because for a home theater setup you will run the audio from the DVD player into a processor or A/V receiver. I see HDMI as a cabling / connection convenience more than a big step up in technology for picture quality.
