Projector and screen for family room

Hi,
I have a very nice family room on our lower level - about 15'x18' with built ins on one wall.
I am thinking about buying a projector and screen and making this a home theater.
Can I get an ascellent projector and screen for $2000 or less?
I don't follow this area like I do two channel sound and am looking for recommendations for those that are in the know. best bang for the buck possibilities.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
