$1000 for both speakers and receiver?Honestly, I'd probably go used at A-gon if that's the limit.
If not, for a couple hundred more I'd look at the Yammie you mentioned above and the Energy Encore surround system (you can find them pretty reasonably on-line).
Otherwise I'd look for a good used Denon or Onkyo and/or used Encores, Epos ESL-3s or suchlike. You could even get something like Cambridege Soundworks speakers for the rears.
