The HDMI Input needs to be set to 1080i pillar box

You will find this on the setup menus on the Directv receiver. HDMI outputs all signals in 1080 mode then the TV scales as neccesary.

I had the same problem when I went from a component connection to the HDMI.

BTW whats wrong with Monster cable? I think their video cables are pretty good. I just had my Samsung 56" DLP calibrated by the ISF..

Even with the Directv signal HD does look pretty damn good. When I get an out board Scaler it will be even better
