The Sonys are rarely discounted, it seems to be their policy. If you do a search online, you can find them lower. BTW, you do know that they are really made by Pioneer. Amazon has the Samsung for $600, just make sure it has the latest firmware (downloadable if needed). I've toyed with the idea of getting a BD player, to go with my HD DVD player, but between the fact that there are only 10BD exclusive titles I would buy, and the price of stand alone players is rather high. PS3 isn't an option for me-its butt ugly and has no remote.
You may wish to consider an HD DVD player,half the price, and one day blu-ray players will catch up to them PQ wise.
