There are many displays on the market with <1920x1080 resolution that accept 1920x1080p via analog. I have a 6 series 50" commercial Panasonic plasma (released Q3 03) that accepts 1920x1080p via YPbPr, RGB(HV) or VGA -- yet the screen resolution is only 1366x768. Unfortunately, via DVI, it won't accept 1920x1080p from my PS3, so I have to send it 1920x1080i.
Why not 1080p via one of the analog inputs? Because 1080p is not allowed for movies with Blu-ray (nor HD DVD) and the digital input looks sharper and more "real" than the 10-bit A/Ded analog inputs.
