A better test might have been to ensure the HD DVD version also had a DTS HD MA soundtrack and cranked down the video bitrate to make sure everything still fits. If RBFilms had done that, we would have a better gauge of the bandwidth limitations and it's possible effects. I hear that's exactly what they might try and do with the next go around.
