I found that the sets in showrooms, especially Circuit City, were often adjusted in very strange ways. I saw one Panasonic set that had looked spectacular in another store look awful in our local store. It was a quiet evening, and the guy in the store gave me the remote to adjust it. When I was done it looked like a completely different, vastly better set; he was amazed.
You can easily change the effective color temperature, which can make whites go from bluish to yellowish depending on the setting, so you have to be careful when making a judgement in a store. You just don't know what the set-up is without checking. That also goes for sharpness, hue, and many other things. I am extremely happy with the 58-inch Panasonic plasma that I bought, but I tweaked it to my liking. The whites are very natural to my eyes.
