You may have a legitimate concern - I use a 1 metre (39 inch) dish here in Edmonton (as opposed to, I guess, an 18" you may get) to get around that problem and only have lost the picture/audio on 3 occasions over the last 18 months - all during very thick cloud cover.
Your best bet may be to do a bit of research. Find some folks that have dishes (ask the dealer) and get their opinions. I can't see it being a really major problem but still worth checking out.
