It sounds like you are using the dvd decoder. How did you connect your dvd to your receiver? Is it through the digital audio out (this would require 1 coax/toslink cable) of the dvd player to the digital audio in of the receiver or through the 5.1 output (this would require 6 cables) of the dvd player to the 5.1 input of the receiver.If you connect your dvd player to your receiver using the former, you are using the receiver's decoder (which you should be using), while the latter means you are using the dvd player's decoder.
