The cable card is in place of the STB or cable box, if your TV has a slot for it. It does not have 2 way comunications, so it doesn't do on demand.Its a relatively new technology, and the cable companies don't really like it. Comcast tried to install one in my TV, but they couldn't get it right. It doesn't save you any money, but its one less box, and some have said it gives a better picture.
