It does save you "some" money. With Brighthouse you only pay 2.99 per mo. as opposed to the 9.99 (or something like that) for the digital box. However, Jack is correct you have no access to any HD on demand or any pay per view options, you can still however receive the pay cable channels and the set automatically adjust to each format whether SD or HD. In my case my family room 50" LCD has a cable card and we're perfectly happy with it with the exception of atmospheric drop outs (I may also have a reception problem, but I never had issues when using the box on this set as well). The card seems to be more susceptible and when this happens I occasionally have to "reset" the card which only takes about 5-10mins, but is a pain especially when it hits right in the middle of a climactic scene. With the box, I only have a 1 second delay at the most. I'm happy with the digital box in my theater room as well and the picture seems to be perfect if the box is a good one and you use good cables to recieve the best possible picture, it also helps that my home is new and all the wiring is also new. I think it's just a matter of how much room you have and your needs.
