So I may be an idiot, but I don't think so... Went through the manuals. THe 7700 as a reference player does not have an onboard decoder. It is the only SONY model without an onboard 5.1 decoder. It will read 5.1 and DTS, it will output them via a coax or optical, but it will only do the D/A conversion for two channel (CD playback)
