HELP! DVD connection to old TV

Howdy, folks, I'm desperate. I just bought a Toshiba SD-1200 DVD player but haven't been able to get a picture from my old RCA 25" TV with F-jacks. I went to Radio Snack and bought an RCA-to-F converter, but all I get is fuzz and lines. Do I need some sort of transformer? Or am I out of luck until I buy my 32" Toshiba with component video inputs? Any advice would be appreciated!
