I can get a Pioneer VSX 816 demo for about $160. But it doesn't have HDMI nor does it have the microphone for the automatic calibration. It does have the preamp outs which I need so i can use my 2 channel speakers. But who knows how many hours it has been run while in the showroom?
I can also get a new Pioneer vsx 1017 (next generation)for about $329. It has pre-outs and HDMI, BUT the HDMI doesn't work for the sound in this model.
The new vsx 1018 (latest generation) will be out in a few weeks and has HDMI 1.3 plus the pre-outs that I need. It retails for $599. Online wil probably go for $499 maybe, but I'm guessing
OK I have a Pioneer 6070 HD on the way as we speak and will be here next week. It is a 720 resolution. And I plan on getting a bluray player, probably the PS3. FWIW, All of the above components get good reviews
Now my question is, what advantage will the HDMI inputs be if I wait and spend the $$$ (retail is $599)for the vsx 1018? Will it be worthwhile to wait and get the receiver with the HDMI, or should I go with the better deal and use the toslink inputs on the receiver?
I've been in 2 channel for a long time and am totally out of the loop on this stuff. Your help is greatly appreciated.
