Our 2005 model Hitachi 65S500 is HDCP v.1.0 compliant on its DVI input. We've had no problems at all using a Toshiba HD-DVD player connected via an HDMI to DVI video cable. Dolby Digital 5.1 audio output from the HD-DVD player to our home-theater preamp is through an optical audio cable (i.e., Toslink). (We've not yet converted to the latest "HD" audio surround formats.)
As stated in Mr. Rubinson's earlier post, the specifications page at the back of your Hitachi user manual will indeed specify whether your RPTV is HDCP compliant.
My favorite source for high-quality video and audio cables is the good folks at bluejeanscable.com. They offer a wide selection of HDMI-DVI and HDMI cables, and HDMI-DVI adapters. I've found them very helpful over the telephone and they ship out orders immediately.
