Unit-to-Unit Performance Variations are real...

...quality control costs money. Try an exchange for another from different batch (date of manufacture or serial #).

In electronics, I usually see one in five as being satisfactory. Often early runs can be the best for a line, or hit or miss if manufacturing has to iron things out - depends on luck more than any would like to admit.

Sony has held up in the past, perhaps they're slipping.
