Is there a flaw in my plan? setting up my system

24.20.160.4

Okay, I pulled the trigger and bought a Sony 34" XBR960 CRT HDTV from Craigslist. It seems to be in perfect condition. Now I need to integrate it into my slightly older technology system. It has component input and one HDMI input. My A/V receiver is a H/K AV525 which has two component and numereous S-video and composite outputs. For audio it has optical and coax outs. I am about to buy a Oppo DV-980H upconverting DVD which has a HDMI output. Here is my plan, do you see any flaws: Connect the HDMI from the DVD to the TV and run the optical audio from the TV down to the recevier. This will be one video/audio combination. I also have a second DVD player that I use that is older and has component outs. This would be hooked to the recevier and a set of component cables would run up to the TV as a second input. The third video is a VCR which is all old style composite/RCAs. This would run to the Receiver and have a third connection to the TV via a composite video cable. (This is just for the old library of VHSs the kids have). Is this the correct way to hook up all of these technologies from the past? In the future if I get Blu-Ray I will get an Oppo HDMI switchbox.
My primary question is, "will there be any compatability issues using HDMI with the Oppo and a second input using component into the TV with either the TV or the H/K?" I assume I will need to switch inputs for the TV when viewing the different sources. Sorry for the Newbie-like questions.
