at this point. If I was buying right now, I'd probably go Sony 550. I use a PS3 into my Pio 151. I used a Sony 350 too, but it wasn't much diff and was slower, though a more convenient size.If I wanted to spend bucks, I'd probably go for a Denon or wait for the Oppo.
If you are set on a Pio BDP, I can ask somebody who owns all(!!) the current Pio BDPs and has a couple 9G Kuro displays too. He has also owned several other brands/models and has directly compared them at home. Even though he is affiliated with Pioneer (not a dealer), he is honest enough to say that some much cheaper brands outperform (in his opinion) "some" more expensive current Pio models.
Edit: he thought the Pio 51 slightly edged out the Sony 550 in terms of upscaling DVD, and dramatically beat any of the current Pannys, for "film". If you care about this. Personally, I do, because of the vast amount of DVD content I consume... Strictly for BD, he found the Pannys fastest (don't discount speed, some BD players are annoyingly s..l..o..w). For price, he admits the Sony 550 has a bit of a lock at bang for buck. Nothing looks really bad on a Kuro LOL...
