I have replaced my Sony KDL-46XBR2 (2006 model) with a Samsung LN52A650 (2008 model). Gave the Sony to my daughter.
Nothing wrong with the picture on the Sony. However, there are three areas of improvement. Blacks have a “inkier†darker character, and overall contrast is a bit better.
The third is one I didn’t expect. There is three-dimensional impression on some HD content that I never noticed on the Sony. Images seem to “pop†on good HD content and foreground images seem separated from the background.
I suspect the improvement may be due to its “ultra clear panel†that is shinier than the Sony’s dull screen. And therein is the price. The Samsung is less forgiving of reflections from light sources. This isn’t a problem since we have blinds on all windows. The improvement in the picture is well worth this annoyance.
